Childbirth Classes
I am trained and certified through Birth Works and teach according to their model.
I seek to facilitate a woman’s or a couple’s personal process in childbearing, not to impart a preconceived method of labor and birth. There is not one right way to give birth; each birth and each birthing woman is unique and dynamic. The Birth Works process acknowledges this and prepares you to cope with whatever your birth brings you.
In my classes, you’ll be led through a process to help you uncover your own strengths as a birthing woman and a supportive partner. This entails emotional learning, Pelvic Bodywork, processing and, in some cases, grieving and healing. These classes acknowledge and give attention to the major life transition of becoming parents, whether for the first or fifth time. You will learn about the nuts and bolts of birth, for sure, but this learning is couched in an environment of self-discovery. The normalcy of birth as a physiologic process is emphasized, but education is given for the myriad ways birth can occur - and also the myriad ways one can arrange her birthing environment (home, hospital, midwife, ob, doula, unassisted, etc).
My course is eight weeks long consisting of weekly, 2 hour classes. Occasionally, I will offer condensed day-long courses. You can also inquire about private classes, though I believe couples can learn more from each other in a group setting.
