When you decide to encapsulate your placenta, either register here or by downloading a registration form. Payment of $175 is not due until the capsules are complete. Sometimes a mother is unable to obtain her placenta, or it is mishandled. This ensures that you only pay for the final product, in hand.
You will need to speak with your care provider about taking it home. Most hospitals in our area require a simple waiver to be signed, then you may do what you wish with it. Some hospitals are more stringent in their guidelines. Many clients of mine have had to “sneak” their placentas out of the labor room. If you have contracted me as your doula, I will take the placenta home with me and begin the encapsulation immediately. If you are hiring me just for this service, then we will need to arrange pick up and drop off. I can come retrieve the placenta from your place of birth within 48 hours of delivery (placenta must be refrigerated after the first few hours, frozen if longer than 48 hours), then return it to you 24-48 hours after this. If you arrange to have someone bring the placenta to my home, and retrieve the completed capsules from me, then I offer a $25 discount on services.
When you go into labor, have your partner text or call to notify me. I will give specific instructions at that time, depending on where you are birthing and what arrangements we’ve made.
Once the baby is born, again have someone contact me. If you have opted to pay the full price for pick-up and drop-off, I will come retrieve the placenta within the next 12 hours. If I am unable to come within that time, then the placenta must be kept frozen. Once it is in my possession, I immediately begin the 48 hour process. Once it is complete, I will return it to you whether you are in the hospital or at home.
If you are arranging drop off to me and pick up from me, then we will discuss the details upon the baby’s birth.
And of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
